I never went to an acting school, at least not one that was attached to an institution or involved a piece of paper with recognition of learning.  But many talk about the school of life.  For me, acting has always been about understanding the character, believing they could exist, and then embodying them and their world, just for a bit.

This does depend on how much information I have about the character, and I'm big on creating the backstory, so that in theory, no matter what happens, I can keep responding in a way that the character might.

While this is often less visible in the roles I play on screen, it has led to my work in what I like to call "Immersive Improvisation" - role play on steroids at the Pam McLean Centre.
